When a fatal accident occurs, there may be many steps that surviving family members need to handle. Unfortunately, fatal motor vehicle accidents are not uncommon, and often, individuals who have acted recklessly or negligently have caused the incidents. In such cases, family of the deceased victims may have cause to pursue legal action against the drivers and/or other parties considered responsible.
It was recently reported that a crash in Connecticut proved fatal. Apparently, the incident involved four vehicles and took place when a driver was traveling the wrong direction on the roadway. That driver was also reportedly traveling at a high speed when the incident occurred. That vehicle went through a red light and hit another car head on. It was unclear how the other two vehicles were involved.
A woman in the vehicle that was hit was taken to an area hospital, but her injuries proved fatal. Her child was also in the vehicle, but he apparently suffered only minor injuries. The driver of the wrong-way vehicle was reported as being a 24-year-old man, and he was taken into custody for possession of a stolen weapon and possession of narcotics. The incident was still under investigation at the time of the report.
It is unfortunate that motor vehicle accidents can claim lives so easily. The family of this Connecticut victim may wish to gain information on wrongful death claims if they want to pursue compensation against the driver considered at fault. This type of legal action could help them seek restitution for their loss, funeral expenses and other damages permissible under state law.
